Shia LaBeouf, 22, was involved in a traffic accident on July 26 that ended with his arrest for DUI.

The star of Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was driving his truck around Hollywood with actress Isabel Lucas, 23, when the incident occured. Lucas was not seriously injured, but LaBeouf received some extensive injury to his hand that required surgery.

Once the police arrived, it was obvious that an evening of getting tanked at West Hollywood’s Troubador night club might not have been such a great idea.

LaBeouf was cuffed and hauled off to the slammer, where his boyish mug shot was taken. The picture has since begun to circulate all over the Internet.

Now, it has been revealed that LaBeouf admitted to a reporter before the accident that he has a problem.

In an article to be published in Details magazine and available on August 12, LaBeouf told the reporter that he used to “drink and smoke together” with his father, himself a heroin addict. He also says that alcohol is not recreational for the young actor.

“I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman,” LaBeouf said. “I don’t know how to have one drink.”

OK. Shia. Really. Let’s look at this. Britney Spears. Amy Winehouse. Lindsey Lohan. Are you kidding me? You are on the verge of breaking your acting career wide open and possibly becoming the next icon on par with Johnny Depp. Do you really want the paparazzi following you to night clubs, hoping to get a shot of you getting out of cars with no panties on? It seems to us that this relatively minor event should be a major wake up call. If you do not want to become the latest in a long line of young celebrity casualties, you will pull your head out of your rear. NOW.

One thing we can say for Shia. At least he smiled and gave a terrific mug shot under the circumstances. He apparently did learn one lesson from past celebrity mishaps when he saw Nick Nolte’s classic mug shot.
