Actress Eva Mendes is hopping mad over an article for Interview magazine in which the writer cracks a joke about celebrities and addiction.
“People die from this stuff,” the 34-year-old snapped at the interviewer. “So honestly, I think it’s a bit tacky that you made a joke.”
Mendes’s response was to a remark the writer made about Alcoholics Anonymous needing to be renamed Alcoholics Unanimous when it comes to Hollywood, because of the rampant addiction problems which have recieved widespread attention as of late.
Mendes knows whereof she speaks. The actress (and once again, we use the term “actress” loosely) entered rehab herself at the Cirque Lodge in January. The reasons for her “rest” include “drug use” and “body issues”.
Proving that completing rehab doesn’t necessarily make you a less bitter person, Mendes is also upset about what she considers racial bias when it comes to landing Hollywood parts.
“What makes it frustrating is when a director or a studio head doesn’t see me for the same part that they’ll see, let’s say, Drew Barrymore for,” the Cuban-American said.
Could it be that Drew Barrymore is chosen for parts because she has more talent? More experience? More connections? Or, could it be that Drew has been CLEAN for several years and has proven that she won’t snort her way through a shoot?
Of course, with Oscar-worthy blockbusters such as Ghost Rider, Children of the Corn Part Five, and My Brother the Pig under her belt, we can see where Mendes can justify her lack of meaty roles on her ethnic heritage.
And, just for the record, is it just us, or does “The Cirque Lodge” sound less like a rehabilitation facility and more like a trendy night club?
