Neil Patrick Harris, star of How I Met Your Mother, made some remarks about Britney’s guest spot that, according to him, got blown out of proportion. The story first said that if he had his way, Britney would be banned from the set. Harris says that’s not what he meant, and in his defense, it wasn’t written as a quote. He doesn’t want to see his show jump the shark thanks to a string of guest stars, and doesn’t think his show needs stunt-casting, ala the last seasons of Will & Grace (and does anybody else remember the Scooby Doo specials?) to succeed. At first the AP said he was changing his stance, then they backpedaled and changed their stance, stating they had the wrong information.
After all was said and done, Harris said, “My job description is to act, and I should really do just that.” That’s as self-deprecating and graceful a way to say “I should have kept my mouth shut,” that we’ve seen in a long time.
Britney impressed the critics with her guest performance on the show, and apparently the American Idol special Idol Gives Back impressed Britney. She did some research about malaria, after watching the show and discovering what a scourge it is in underdeveloped countries, and was so horrified she donated $25,000 to the cause. Of course, her father had to approve it, since he’s still in charge of her affairs.
And just when you thought Britney might have an uneventful and media-free twenty minutes, she caused a minor fender bender on LA’s Ventura Freeway. No one was hurt, she simply bumped the car in front of her in stop-and-go traffic, causing them to bump another in turn. Britney’s had more car accidents in the last two years than I’ve had in my lifetime. Hey, Britney’s dad, do her and everyone else on the road a favor. While you’re writing all those checks, pay someone to drive her around.
